Self Help For Panic Attacks

Panic attacks affect millions of people a year.

Panic attacks can be one of the scariest things for a person to go through.  You will find that those who suffer from chronic panic attacks will benefit greatly from this site, self help for panic attacks.  In this article I will go through steps that will help you to control your panic attacks and help you breath easier and get your panic attacks to calm down.  These steps will help to soothe your attacks, calm your mind and your body.  Self help for panic attacks will allow people to be in control of what they once felt were in controllable.  You will be able to prevent your attacks from getting under control and with enough time you will soon be able to stop future attacks from even occurring.

Breathing

One of the first things that I will discuss is breathing.  One of the first steps in self help for panic attacks, is for a person to learn how to control their breathing.  Hyperventilation and trouble breathing are one of the first physical issues that a person will experience when they begin to go into a full blown panic attack.  You will begin to loose control of your breathing, begin gasping for air, becoming more and more panic as you lose control of yourself and something as easy as breathing. Many victims of panic attacks have described this feeling as drowning which can be extremely scary.

When you learn to control your breathing you will realize that you will become much more calmer and it will show you that you really are in control of your feelings and emotions. One of the scariest things about panic attacks is that a person does not feel in control of their own bodies.  Once you see that you can control something, it will allow you to become stronger and a fighter.

Yoga will allow you to learn control and help you relaxWhen you begin to exercise breathing I would suggest finding a quiet room or spot to do so.  Find a comfortable position either lying down, sitting or standing and shut your eyes.  Begin to breath slowly and deeply in and out.  While you do so I would suggest counting your breaths. Focus on your breathing only and clear your mind. This will allow you to feel how it feels to deeply breath and you will be counting your breaths and while doing so you will be so relaxed and peaceful. Keep doing this technique while you are not going through panic attacks and this will help you to keep control of your breathing, so when a panic attack hits, you can easily slip into this exercise to allow you to stop the hyperventilation in no time.

Physical Therapy

Another really big complaint that many people go through while experiencing panic attacks is the muscle pain and tension that wracks their bodies.  This pain and tension can really begin to hit a person's body quite hard and make them feel uncomfortable a lot of the time.  I feel that one of the best methods to combat your tension and pain is with yoga.

Yoga has proven time and time again to be a great physical therapy, so to speak. It allows people to control their minds, bodies and soul, which is a problem for many individuals who experience panic attacks to do. Yoga will allow you to soothe your aching muscles, it will allow you to relax and rid your mind of thoughts that may bring on your panic attacks and it will ease your tensions, pains and muscles.  The more in control that you are of yourself the less likely that you will fall into another panic attack.

Meditation

Meditation will allow you to go away in your mind and to get rid of the negative thoughts and fears that plague you. Negative thoughts and fears are the number one cause of panic attacks.  These thoughts and fears will literally debilitate somewhere right where they are, no matter what they are doing.  Meditation will allow you to curb those impulses and take control of those feelings.

Every time you feel a panic attack, you should begin to control your breathing and while doing so create a mantra.  Mantras are used all of the time in both Yoga and meditation. Come up with a saying or a phrase that will help you to soothe yourself and know that it will be ok.  This will allow you to feel more in control and therefore feel better about the situation that you are in.
